LESS rain has fallen in 2010 than any year in the past seven decades, making this year the second driest year since weather records began 200 years ago, according to the Met Office.

So far this year, just 473.8 mm of rain has fallen in the Island.

The driest year on record was in 1921 when Jersey had 425.9 mm of rain, half the average yearly total.

Principal Met officer Tony Pallot said not enough rain was forecast in the coming days to fill Jersey’s reservoirs, which are just 35 per cent full.

Is this article really about last year’s rainfall? I suspect not, and the year in the first paragraph is incorrect (i.e. it should be ’2011′).

Please can the JEP employ a proof reader to ensure such basic errors do not find their way into the newspaper (and onto the thisisjersey.com website)?

Add to the list poor grammar, creeping Americanisms and wildly overhyped stupid headlines, times must be tough at JEP and the poor quality is showing. Another thing that grinds my gears so to speak are the road tests in the motoring section on Fridays. There really should be an “advertisement feature” above all the tests as they are not objective in any way! I know that Jacksons must be a big advertiser but please don’t keep kissing their backsides and extolling the virtues of every crappy vehicle they ask you to supposedly report on. Instead of regurgitating the manufacturers press release let’s see some objective reporting, either that or stop using 17 year old reporters that are wowed by anything new they are allowed to drive!
