Electricity price rise from May
Wednesday 22nd February 2012, 9:39AM GMT.
JEC chief executive Chris Ambler
ELECTRICITY prices are to rise by 2.9 per cent from 1 May in the first increase for more than three years.
The rise is significantly below the rate of inflation, which currently stands at five per cent.
And Jersey Electricity has moved to reassure Islanders that there will be no further increases during the rest of the year.

“ELECTRICITY prices are to rise by 2.9 per cent from 1 May in the first increase for more than three years”.
Yes but didn’t prices rise by 24% 3 years ago? are we supposed to be grateful that the rise is less than inflation. As for the reassurance that there will be no further increases this year, whoopie so only 1 price rise a year, aren’t they doing well.
I seem to recall that the JEC buy their electricity from France several years ahead, has the price gone up in France or is it more capative market profiteering. It’s not bad enough that gas has gone up, water inevitably will when metering is compulsory introduced and a sewage tax to follow.
I’m going to buy some vaseline and greas up, this is gonna hurt.

So thats 2.9% + 5% GST then. How figures spin!!!
Oh bless em!! they only put it up 2.9% which is below inflation, well they screwed us 3 years ago when they increased it by 24%, so don’t try pulling that one on us. Where I work we have not had a wage rise, it will be 4 years this April. And we were told we will not be getting a wage rise this year because of hard financial times. I can barely survive now, as everything had shot up but yet our wages have stayed the same, well for a lot of people they have. My rents gone up every year for 4 years, so has food, well everything. I just about live these days which in 2012 is unacceptable. I would just like a straight answer off somebody of how we can survive this.

well here we are folks..a glowing example of how the rich screw the poor..the gap between those haves and have nots is widening..right on cue and according to plan…because that’s exactly what they want..those who are familiar with the French revolution will see striking comparisons of who was taxed and who was privileged..same same..and history proves again and again….that the masses put up with and put up with till they snap…then there is NO NEGOTIATING with them ,the mob take over …and the oppressors become the hunted…it’s all in basic history text…though most reading this would choose to believe that it could not happen here….as it ruffles the comfort zone..Denial it’s called.. former Prime minister.Clement Attlee tried to reassure the Brits that having met that nice Mr Hitler…that he was a jolly nice chap and a bargain had been struck between the two….Conned totally..will you be..or are you being…think?

Any discount for long term customers???? How about 20%? No? Is that because you have a captive market so you can screw us wherever your whims take you.
Think I’ll invest in solar panlels, or maybe buy my own generator! Either would be heaps cheaper me thinks.

As for electric I think you’ll find that it rose 19% 5 years ago followed by a further 24% rise a couple of years later. However they were generous enough to rduce their price by 5% some time after that.
I wonder if Mr.Ambler gets a cost of living rise? Maybe he would like to confirm or deny this? What about the rest of the management have they had rises? What about dividends for private shareholders have they gone up? If so these extra costs have to be paid for.

I agree with the others 24% 3years ago, they need the money to continue investment. How much profit did they make last year. Of course we got the assurance that it will not go up again this year. Well that means another hike January 1st. Thre is never a price reduction

Until this foul Monopoly ends, this is what we are faced with. They should be made to wholesale to another Company at a regulated wholesale price and allow fair competition. Can you imagine if JT or JW had tried to increase prices by 24% in one go! That 24% increase should have covered them for 10 years!
A good idea if its good enough for JT then why not electric which is after all one of the largest drains of income. I would also look into the possibility of outsourcing to France since they already supply the electric. Why not cut out the middleman? I bet this would bring down costs like wages.
By the way there was also a 19% rise 2 years before the 24% rise as I mentioned in my post at 6.

Uk prices are going down!

rents up, gst 5%, food expensive , fuel expensive .
hows the wages ??
mine are as static as they were 2 years ago.
What are CICRA doing about this?
Oh yeah, they are after JT and Condor.
About time this Monopoly got sorted.
Don’t get me started on the recently internationalised JCRA. As far as I am concerned they are a waste of time and money. They faff around with JT whilst the essentials of life are going through the roof.
Great one ! with our climate getting worse, and our FAT CATS getting too big for their boots ! Well done Minster, hope your pay rise covers your costs, because mine bloody doesn’t!!!!!!
Now that is a surprise, quite unexpected. ?
I reckon we should investigate just how much the French are charging the JEC for supplies?
Why just complain on here . Do something else arrange a rally .(protest)
because the 19,000 signature petition and rally in Royal Square against GST worked so well

14 PAUPER….good question…here are some figures to make your eyes water….the buying price per unit to J.E. from the French…3Pence……sell on price 14.7pence

Interestingly the wage bill increased by 2.96% in 2011, with an increase of only 4 employees, from 333 to 337. I would say that this increase is soley to meet staff salary increases at a time when many of us are not getting any pay increases.
CEO Ambler had an increase in package in 2011 of 5.43% to a whopping £234,500.
He and other directors also benefit from loans from the company of £1,000,000 at base rate (no margin)
all this in the accounts available on line.

So someone gets above cost of living who doesn’t really need the extra cash whilst others have their wages frozen or cut, and electric goes up to pay for all these costs. I am amazed people aren’t kicking up a storm over this.
What other perks are the management getting?
