TWO cars have been left burnt out following a fire in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to Wellington Park, St Saviour, just before 2 am to deal with the fire on Highfields Road.

The Fire and Rescue Service said that eight firefighters were dispatched to the scene, where the blaze was threatening other cars and homes. The fire crew brought the flames under control within ten minutes.

Michael De Sousa, who lives in the area, filmed the action from his window.

I remember in the early 1990s, during the early hours of the morning, cars were set on fire at Five Oaks.

The guy that phoned the Fire Service turned out to be the arsonist. He had remained at the scene until the Fire engines and police arrived. He was arrested the next day and on being interviewed admitted the offence. He was later convicted at Court.

If these fires were non accidental, lets hope current day cops have the ability to detect this offence.
