Planning to reconsider application for farm shed

Mr Coenen’s application for the building will be looked at again in the New Year
ONE of Jersey’s youngest farmers is a step closer to expanding his business after a Planning panel agreed to reconsider his application to build a large shed.
Laurent Coenen was refused permission to build on his land in St Lawrence earlier this year, but insisted that he needed the building to house sheep and farm machinery.
The shed would also be used for packing, storing and grading eggs, and keeping animal feed.
After hearing from Mr Coenen and Rob Williams, of architects JSL Associates, the panel supported the young farmer’s bid to have his request reconsidered. Mr Coenen’s application for the building will be looked at again in the New Year.

Imagine how much work there would be for builders, and how many could be taken off the unemployment register if there were no planning department!

Imagine how much work there would be for quacks and “barrack room lawyers” and how many people could be taken off the unemployment list if there was no medical register or law society.
Imagine how many people would be taken off the unemployment register if there were no avaiation authority or air traffic controller departments!

Think about how much our remaining areas of outstanding beauty and green fields wouldn’t be there is there was no planning department!
Think of how many rabbit hutches and unhealthly units would be built with out the planning department.
Well done to the Planning Applications Panel for supporting this young farmer!

Imagine how much more despoilation of our still(just) beautiful island if there wasn’t.Perfect they ain’t but thankfully they’re there.I for one am getting tired of this so called support for our mostly non local builders,there is only so much room here and I wish Laurent well we need more small farmers and the small ones need help.

It’s ok Planning to approve that eye sore at Portelet and 28 luxury homes on the headland is fine but building a shed to support a local farmers business – that will never do! It’s about time some heads rolled at Planning – they are as much use as a one legged man at an arse kicking competition.

Trouble is some of these sheds are built for agricultural need and then the next thing you know they are applying for change of use into other things….this has happened to a few newly constructed sheds I know of and I’m sure there are redundant sheds available!!

If they make the right decision regarding this shed then there may just be light at the end of the tunnel.

Laurent Coenen’s land is well tucked away in St. Lawrence – his hens are free to roam all day long to their hearts’ content. They produce some of the tastiest eggs anyone could wish for.
I think it’s totally disgraceful that a bunch of little Hitlers at Planning didn’t grant him the permission he needs straight away. What a total waste of time and money for everybody involved.

Whatever happened to joined-up government? Every day we hear calls to diversify the economy yet here is a young Jerseyman who is building up what seems to be a successful agricultural business and he gets the thumbs-down from the jobsworths from what has to be one of the ugliest buildings in town.

Surely there is a simple solution to this. Cannot planning permission be granted with the absolute irrevocable condition that the building can only be used as an agricultural shed?

Not as simple as that I’m afraid…we had a neighbours shed built for agriculture store then changed into engineering so planning conditions on sheds useless
