Third wettest year on record

LAST year began with warnings of a hosepipe ban – but seemingly endless rain from April eventually made it one of the wettest on record, according to new Jersey Met Office figures

Although forecasters last week said that the rainfall totals for the year were only average, the full figures released today(THUR) show that a total of 1081.5mm of rain fell in 2012 – the third highest figure since records began in 1894.

It was beaten only by the thoroughly miserable years of 1930, which recorded 1,095.6mm, and 1960, which saw a total of 1,107.8mm.

The figures also confirmed that Jersey’s famously high sunshine levels had a bad year too, with just 2,181.1 hours of sun being measured at Fort Regent, below the average of 2,209.7 hours.

They must be kidding with the hours of sun, where did that come from:-) That would be more than Bordeaux in France or nearly the same as Pisa in Italy. Maybe the measurement device is as old as the Fort…………..They still want to make people think it’s sunny Jersey, while Jersey clearly hasn’t got much more sun than other places in the UK (Kent, Cornwall etc.)

  2181 HOURS OF SUN!!! THAT WOULD BE 6 HOURS PER DAY.. sounds like the usual rubbish we are told about jersey by EXPERTS!!

i do worry about future world crops not just local.
many of us have never known a lack of food ( i have’nt ).
and wonder what it will be like if we have the same again.
food is expensive enough these days.
wont need to go on a diet .
you can eat what is not there .

  Well maybe time to buy some land in Scotland, still cheap & you’d have enough space to have a greenhouse. All you need then is a wind turbine & PV.

    Actually food in UK is much cheaper as a % of income than about 30 years ago. Two thirds of the world starve, the other 1/3 are concerned with obscity!

Well you must have missed some of the rain! Acording to the UK Met Office 2012 was the second wettest year since records began. It was beaten by 2000 which had 6 mm more.
