A TEENAGER from Jersey who was told she would never walk again is back on her feet thanks to pioneering treatment at Southampton General Hospital.

Charlotte Volante (18) had been confined to a wheelchair since the age of 11 after being born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, water on the brain.

Doctors told her she would never walk again and to simply get on with life.

However, after meeting children’s orthopaedic expert Caroline Edwards and undergoing a complicated operation last July to lengthen tight muscles at the hips, knees and feet, the former Les Quennevais and Le Rocquier student was soon standing up by her hospital bed and walking around her ward.
