Captain Timoteo Costa on the Airport tarmac
A MADEIRAN pilot who spent a most of his career flying in and out of Jersey revealed this week that he has only ever set foot outside the Airport once.
Captain Timoteo Costa, who has retired after 24 years piloting flights between Jersey and the Portuguese island, knew Jersey better from the air after countless landings and take-offs here.
On Tuesday, he completed his last flights into and out of Jersey, having flown more than 170,000 passengers between the two islands over the years.

Maybe he thought that once was enough ?

I agree, it’s an interesting story and Captain Timoteo Costa must feel great satisfaction about the families he has brought together during that time. I think someone should give him a free holiday
I wonder whether it is any different to the person who travels on international business trips and transfers through Frankfurt, Dubai or Singapore without a sense of the ‘place’ he is passing through? Airports are often described “non-places” that are detached from the communities which they serve, and one could easily apply that concept to this article. It is indicative of the power of mobility.

Give him a holiday but not in Jersey its to expensive.

If I were him I would take a nice long sojourn down in that southern sun, well earned and well rested. Lovely to see a cheerful story for once. Have a great retirement.
