A SEXUAL abuse victim who says her psychological damage was compounded by the cross-examination she endured at trial has made a formal complaint about her treatment.

The woman, who has not been identified due to legal reasons, has filed a complaint with the Law Society of Jersey following the suggestion by her attacker’s lawyer that she had made up allegations of sexual abuse.

Advocate Timothy Hanson, the head of the Law Society, said of the Jersey case that although the attacker was jailed, the woman had paid a high price in terms of emotional and psychological damage.

However, the Law Society has found no evidence that the lawyer in question had acted inappropriately.
