Refuge on the road to stop men treating women like rubbish

The refuge team will be joining the St Helier bin men to make their point
‘DON’T treat women like rubbish’ is the message from the Jersey Women’s Refuge, with some members volunteering to be bin men for the day to raise awareness about domestic abuse.
This year the refuge is inviting Islanders to take up a special challenge to raise funds during their 25th anniversary year.
To lead by example, refuge manager Lorna Kearney, deputy manager Sammy Price and committee member Tracy Turmel have pledged to undertake 12 new challenges during 2013, representing some of the difficulties faced by victims of domestic abuse.
Last month the women put a window display in Voisins department store for 25 hours and on Monday they will be trained and then go out rubbish-collecting on the vans, streetcleaning and recycling.

How sexist!…What about those men whom are abused by women?
If there’s a campaign then at least it should be balanced.

Why is the Parish of St Helier constantly favouring this charity over all others? Did St Helier ratepayers ever agree to give preferential treatment to one charity only? If so, when was the vote taken and how many voted? Just like their rubbish carts, this stinks!

Of course there are other deserving charities but personally I think that this is a perfect fit with a rather macho occupation.
Probably does no harm to staff morale and self esteem in a vital and often undervalued occupation.
What do the Bin-men ( ok, Bin-people ) think ?

For both sexes, it is all about dealing with bullies who get a kick out of treating other people badly, whilst in reality their behaviour reflects weakness in them. We have been brought up to be considerate towards other people whereas in reality some people (both sexes) do not deserve that consideration.
