This is what I want – so how should I vote?

Tuesday 18th October 2011, 3:00PM BST.

From Mike Pitman.
WHO shall I vote for tomorrow? Shall I even vote at all this time or shall I finally join those thousands whose disillusion with their government has driven them, many elections ago, to abandon the ballot box?

I want to live in an Island where all companies trading pay their fair share of tax, irrespective of their registered place of ownership.

I want to live in an Island where my meagre salary is not raided monthly by a greedy profligate government while people earning two hundred times my salary pay less tax than I do.

I want to live in an Island where we have a benefits system which helps people who truly can’t help themselves rather than the current system which appears to reduce my standard of living while handing out payments which give claimants a lifestyle I can only dream about. Is it really the intention of the social security department to fund annual £3,000 holidays while also paying that same claimant’s teeth replacement treatment?

I want my tax money to be wisely managed and spent – a good start would be a decent consultant back doctor, given the epidemic of bad backs so rampant in the Island.

I want to see Jersey youngsters serving me in the bars, hotels and supermarkets: there is no shame in working in the service industries so why are there so few local boys and girls in these jobs? Many of our better hotels are open all year so why are imported staff so essential when our own youngsters are unemployed? Or are we failing them in their education?

I want to see local people being trained for future promotion into local top jobs, public and private sectors, rather than the incessant influx of outsiders and their assorted family hangers on. What a slap in the face this must be to people who see their projected career paths suddenly terminated.

I want the States to go back to the committee system. Ministerial government has merely given us a tight coterie of privileged States Members who seem to exert undue influence. The rest appear superfluous.

So where do I put my cross tomorrow?

Could someone tell me on the 18th of October, day before the election COHEN WAS ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE J.E.P AND ALSO WAS FEATURED ON THE LETTERS PAGE WITH 5 OUT OF SIX PRO COHEN LETTER,S VERY STRANGE. I honestly believe the suits are running this election. and I think if Ballanche Cohen and Jones get in all is lost, in other words where buggered, they won, we might as well give up. Well I have done my best ,but where money is involved one really is just wasting there time. WE shall see
