Triumphant trio: Sheila McGinnigle, Helen Greechan and Jackie Knight
Jersey’s women bowlers have chalked up a fine victory, against the odds, over England in the Atlantic bowls championships in Cyprus.

After losing to Cyprus and Canada, Sheila McGinnigle, Jackie Knight and Helen Greechan notched up their first win – against the USA, but it was the win over England that got everyone buzzing.
With Julie Saunders leading for two Commonwealth Games gold medallists Natalie Melmore and Ellen Falkner playing second and skip, England looked formidable as they raced into a 14-7 lead after 11 ends.
But a count of five on the 12th, followed by a fantastic four on the 14th sent the Jersey trio into the last end with a three-shots cushion – and they gladly dropped a single for a famous 17-15 victory.
