THE world’s No 1 squash player, Nick Matthew, will play an exhibition match in May to announce the opening of the new court at the Jersey Squash Club.

‘He will hit the first ball on court,’ explained Squash Development Officer Nick Taylor, standing alongside building works, yet to be completed.

‘The court will be glass backed and, with it, we’d like to see the start of a new era of squash in Jersey.

‘The new court itself will have the capacity for at least 100 spectators, while we’re looking to bring into the St Clement Squash Club a full programme of the sport.’
