ISLAND football team manager Craig Culkin says the momentum is building up in his squad following Saturday’s victory in the FA Inter League Cup.

Representing the Dandara Jersey Football Combination in the 48-team knock-out competition, the league representative squad have reached the quarter-finals for the second time in consecutive biennial tournaments.

The Combination beat their Essex & Suffolk Border League opponents 1-0 at Springfield and Culkin said he was delighted with the win.

The manager and coach said: ‘Essex & Suffolk had better individual players then I expected, especially following our 8-0 victory in the previous round.

‘It was good to have a challenging team to play against and they had done their homework because they watched a video of our last game and they saw that we liked to get our full backs pushing forward.’
