Razor-sharp finishing by Martin Murray lit up Springfield last night and condemned Jersey U18s to defeat in the annual Lynn Nicholson Football Trophy match against Northern Ireland Schools

Jersey lost 1-4, their only goal being scored by St Ouen FC player Charlie Petulla.

Having started the season with a crucial goal in the Champions League for his club side Glentoran, Murray’s mid-season form made him too hot to handle on a bitterly cold evening.

He scored a hat-trick for the visitors, including a penalty, the fourth goal being scored by James McGahan.

OMG!! I have critisised before and I am going to do it again. These young men deserve much better from the coaches involved. They receive little time together to prepare for their matches. This was possibly the weakest side to face Jersey this season and we should have been looking for a positive result.
Try using modern day footballing tactics instead of coaching 80′s football. Last night we failed to string even the simplist of passes together. Eleven individual players in red, and that doesnt make a team does it. There are some good young coaches on the Island and they deserve a chance to work with these boys, giving clear instruction and demonstrations. Give them a go…you know it makes sense.

re sparky – last time I checked we were Jersey FC and not Manchester United FC….

and they were playing against someone with champions league experience (this season) which is pretty awesome.

Swampy. My whole point is, that to be as good as you can ever be, you must play against the best available. However, preperation is key, and I am saying that the current methods are not good enough and let down these young men.

Great read. To think a great like Ronaldo pleayd for four European Cup-winning clubs but never lifted the trophy himself is sad. He’ll be remembered as one of the all-time greats.Ronaldo never won the big cup, but David May did. Sometimes football isn’t fair
