Jersey act fast on red card
Thursday 15th November 2012, 3:00PM GMT.
JERSEY RUGBY CLUB have given centre Ashley Maggs an immediate one-match ban after holding an internal preliminary inquiry days after his red card for a dangerous tackle away to Bristol in the RFU Championship on Sunday afternoon.
It is an accepted procedure in rugby union for clubs to take the lead in disciplinary matters, although the matter will still go forward to the RFU, who will determine if any futher action should be taken.
The club ban runs up to the official RFU disciplinary hearing, which will take place, via conference call, on Monday, 19 November.
In-form Maggs, deemed guilty by referee Matt Carley of a lifting, or tip tackle (though not a spear tackle), will be hoping any additional suspension does not rule him out of Jersey’s high-profile hosting of leaders Newcastle Falcons on Saturday, 24 November and, even more importantly, the clash away to Doncaster Knights, who they are level with on nine points at the bottom of the table, on Friday, 30 November.
