All eyes on Jersey quartet

While Malcolm De Sousa marched on in his bid to win the world men’s outdoor singles bowls title in Adelaide yesterday, it was the Jersey quartet of Lee Nixon, Greg Davis, Jamie Macdonald and Thomas Greechan who attracted most attention.
Having already beaten the host country, Australia, who are hotly tipped to win the fours title, Greechan’s men upstaged the mighty Scots, scoring a five and a six on their way to a well-deserved 19-16 victory.
‘Why can’t we play like that always?’ asked Greechan, clearly referring to the fact that their victories over the world’s best have been balanced by some defeats at the hands of teams they would normally expect to beat.
Before lunch, for example, the Jersey four had lost, 19-14, to the USA, and had decided to shuffle the positions in their team, third man Nixon dropping down to lead, and Macdonald moving up to play number three to Greechan.
