De Sousa stunned

Malcolm De Sousa, who broke new ground for Jersey when he became the first male bowler for the Island to qualify for the knockout stage of the world outdoor bowls championship, failed to make the semi finals at the Lockleys bowls club in Adelaide today.
With a cross wind making life difficult for both players on a lightning-fast green, De Sousa’s opponent, 25-year-old Kiwi Shannon McIlroy, made his experience of these testing conditions, which he encounters frequently in New Zealand, count and he romped home, 21-3, in a disappointingly one-sided quarter final.
De Sousa (21) is one of Jersey’s most talented sporting prospects, who took up bowls almost accidentally about ten years ago, because his parents ran the catering department in Jersey’s indoor bowls club at Grainville.
