Evans’ departure a sign Jersey will not accept current position

THE reality that professional rugby is driven by results hit home at Jersey RFC this week, with the departure of forwards coach and player Ben Evans announced yesterday afternoon.
An extremely popular and larger-than-life personality, the prop forward – capped 27 times for Wales in a distinquished playing career – seems to have paid the price as Jersey search for the formula to survive in their debut season in the RFU Championship.
Club chairman Bill Dempsey issued the following statement following a meeting earlier this week after the damaging defeat away to fellow relegation strugglers Doncaster Knights left them three points adrift at the bottom of the table:
‘We regret to announce that Ben Evans is giving up his role as player-coach. This decision was reached by mutual consent, after a review in which the challenges of combining the two elements of his role were discussed.’

Would the States of Jersey put such vast sums of money into this club if it could of predicted the results?
Perhaps the money could be spread in a fairer way next year. Sadly, poor results will only result in lower attendance and visitors for the club.

So, when does Ben Harvey’s head land on the chopping block then? It seems like there are some pretty poor decisions at the moment which Ben needs to take responsibility for. Is this a step too far for an under qualified head coach?

What results did you expect Tony, they are at a higher level promoting the island giving fantasic value for money.
You have little faith. If they survive the drop it would have been an outstanding season.
