Jets won’t fly to Glasgow

ISLAND netball fans have had a great time of late, but they will again have to make do with cheering on individuals in the Commonwealth Games next year.
Home-grown stars such as Serena Guthrie of England, or Jacy Brown of Scotland, are virtually certain to attract huge backing from Jersey – particularly without an Island side to cheer on at Glasgow 2014.
After the huge success of Team Jets over the past couple of seasons netball has been thrust to the forefront of Island sport, but the very reason that the Jets are so successful is also the reason an Island side will not compete in the CWG.
The Jersey Netball Association is registered as part of England Netball, which brings a variety of benefits to local players and coaches but also means that Jersey cannot be represented on any international stage (though the Island Games would be possible, if the sport were admitted).
