A JERSEY company has been providing its services at the Battle of Flowers free of charge for almost four decades.

After an eight-year gap, St Helier is heading back into the Battle of Flowers.

SINCE the JEP last caught up with the St Helier Battle of Flowers team, work has progressed well on their return float, called Funelier.

ELEVEN-year-old Georgina Barnes has been crowned as this year’s Miss Junior Battle of Flowers. The St Lawrence School pupil beat off competition from 19 other girls to take the title at a competition on Sunday afternoon in Howard Davis Park.

FORMER Coronation Street and Dancing on Ice star Danny Young is this year’s celebrity Mr Battle. The 23-year-old finished fifth in the recent series of the TV skating show and is best known for playing the role of Warren Baldwin in the ITV soap.

MISS Battle of Flowers has a new chaperone. Alicia Nerac has taken over the reins from Jackie Donald, who stood down earlier this year after seven years in the role.

THE Battle of Flowers will have to become more commercialised if plans to reduce States grants are approved, the Economic Development Minister has warned.
